Pre-Registration Open for Terry Workman Herding Clinic, Oct. 20-21

October 20th & 21st, 2018

Balgrae Dog Training
13 Horne Homestead Road
Charlton, MA 01507

The Bearded Collie Club of Maine is honored to host a herding clinic with Terry Workman of WayToMe Bearded Collies and Border Collies in Bennet, NE. Terry is an AKC herding judge and has judged herding trials at multiple BCCA Specialties. In addition to his judging duties, Terry trains herding dogs of different breeds and trials with his Border Collies. He has held clinics in a variety of locations, including Washington state, Austria, Sweden and Maine.

Beginning and experienced dogs are welcomed. We will be offering 8 working spots from 8:00 to 5:00 Saturday and 4 working spots from 8:00 to 12:00 Sunday morning with 10 BCCA Herding Instinct Tests offered on Sunday afternoon 1:00 to 5:00 (dogs must be 6 months of age to qualify for the instinct certificate).

Working spots and HICs available and offered to BCCME members first, and then they will be open to all.

  • $100.00 for working spot
  • $35.00 for BCCA Instinct Test – (no previous experience is neccessary)
  • $35.00 per day for auditing

Please fill in the Pre-Registration form and return by September 15th to:

Maryann Groves, PO Box 472, Alfred, ME 04002
or e-mail to: cmgroves@roadrunner.com

Coffee, donuts, and muffins provided for breakfast – we will send out for lunch

NOTE: Don’t send any money just yet. Because we’re offering working spots to BCCME members first, we need to see how many members want to come. Come for one day, both days, for just the HIC… Whatever you’d like to do, contact Maryann. Download the pre-registration form here.

Who Wants to Go Herding this Fall?

Maryann, our intrepid Activities Chair, is working to bring our favorite Beardie breeder/judge Terry Workman back for a 2-day herding event. We’d have lessons on Saturday and early Sunday, and then offer the BCCA Herding Instinct Test (HIC) on Sunday. Working spots will first be offered to Club members (so get your memberships in!), then to other Beardie People, and then to everyone else.

Interested? We’d really like to know who would come. If you think this sounds good, please fill out our SurveyMonkey survey:

Thanks so much!

Busy Summer Ahead!

Hello Mainiacs!

The summer, like so many summers before it, is already looking to be crazy busy. Here’s a list of dates for events and deadlines that you’ll want to know about.

June 23-24: Supported Entries at the Chickadee Cluster in Cumberland, ME. Here are the entry breakdowns:
Saturday: 1-2 (0-0)
Sunday: 1-2 (0-0)

June 30: last day to submit photos for the 2019 Beardies of the World Calendar. All the details are at www.bowcalendar.com .

July 1: Time to start thinking about membership renewal! You can even renew online, which saves the trouble of writing checks and mailing stuff. I will be away for the BBQ this year, so you won’t be able to hand me any membership stuff there. If you can, please renew online or via snail mail before the BBQ.

Also on July 1: Our insurance renews. I’ll be spending some club money on that shortly.

July 14: Not only is it Bastille Day in France, but it’s also the date of the 13th annual BCCME Beardie Bounce & BBQ! As usual, it will be held at Val’s house in Scarborough from 12-4 PM. Bring something for the potluck, bring a pen to vote in the annual election (members only), and bring $$ for the traditional raffles.

(Yes, we did change the date of the BBQ to the 3rd weekend in July, but Val can’t be home to host us on that date this year — so we’re back to the second weekend this year.)

Lastly… save the weekend of October 20-21! Maryann, our Activities Chair has been planning something special! Priority for signup goes to BCCME members first, so there’s an incentive to renew!

Val has been working on getting a Fun Walk together in Scarborough sometime. More on that as the details get ironed out.

That’s all for now… Please contact Val with any ideas, if you’d like to run for office, or for any good reason at all.
